M/S KISAQ GREENLAND MINICRUISE PROGRAMME |
|
| |
|
Because of
the fact that Kisaq does not operate after a particular schedule there is no
fixed routes to book in on. Every tour is planned from scratch, usually in
corporation between skipper and the chartering persons or companies.
When, what
and who does Kisaq sail with then? During the summer which stretches from mid may till mid September, Kisaq is primarily working with long-lasting charters. These charters are basically work cruises and can be divided into three categories; firm tours, tourist cruising and special tours. Somewhat like this:
Here are a few examples of, what Kisaq has been involved in since the foundation of "Kisaq minicruise" in the year 2000: |
|
The first
minicruises Kisaq sailed, started from the old American military base,
Narsarsuaq.
These cruises where arranged by Greenland Travel, and where guided by Erik Schou Jensen from Geological museum in Copenhagen, and his wife Rita Schou. Both tours where based on geology and general tourism. To the right, you can see the route that Kisaq followed in Juli 2000 and 2001. Rumbling Gleichers, huge icebergs and the sight of the enormous icecap was almost a guaranteed part of the tour, which lasted almost 2 weeks. Whales are also often seen all over Greenland.

Minicruising
in South Greenland turned out to be a big success, so Greenland Travel, Erik
Schou and Kisaq decided to try the same principle in Midvest Greenland (Diskobugten)
- which also turned out as a success. Therefore, another cruise have been
arranged in July 2004.
The Diskobugt is surrounded by bare tall mountains, the opposite of South Greenland’s low, green mountains. It is not unusual for the mountains in the Diskobugt to reach an altitude of almost 2 km. - a very impressive sight...
As well as in the south, the Diskobugt also offers rumbling gleischers, sight of the icecap, whales and many other interesting visits to Greenland’s many cultural and historical sights.

Kisaq has
also shown great potential as a transport for service material, mobile
hotel and restaurant. In principle, 3 to 4 companies charter the ship -
typically from mid may to mid June. Kisaq then typically visits the
greater cities on the route from Uummannaq to Nanortalik, where the
company branches are visited and inspected. Apart from the minicruises and work cruises, Kisaq has also been used for a wide variety of charters. Amongst those I can mention a tourist cruise from Ilulissat to Thule for three weeks, archeological surveys on the east coast, 2 weeks in South Greenland as a diving ship , etc. In October 2003, Kisaq was also custom-fitted for a sea-measuring assigment and skipper have plans ready for building a helipad on the back of the ship.
Kisaq also completed a vacationel journey to the Caribbean and back again, which started October 2001 and ended in may 2002. This is a picture of Kisaq in "English Harbor".
